The 2022-23 grain corridor was the one functioning maritime de-escalation channel of this conflict, and Moscow has form here: it suspended and eventually abandoned that initiative after extracting concessions on its own fertiliser and grain exports, and has consistently rejected reviving it on the original terms. A denial that any Turkish proposal has even been received is a familiar sequencing move, placing the burden of the next step on Ankara and Washington rather than signalling movement. In past episodes of this kind, the market channel ran through wheat futures and Black Sea freight and war-risk insurance premia, which priced corridor viability as a binary; Ukrainian overland and Danube export capacity has since absorbed part of that flow, muting but not eliminating the sensitivity. Turkey's role as broker has historically been durable but slow, with proposals surfacing publicly before either side confirms engagement. What is worth watching is whether Turkey confirms or disputes the existence of a proposal, and whether ceasefire talk broadens to energy or port infrastructure, which would reprice the risk premia attached to regional shipping rather than grain alone.
