Context

Russian monthly vehicle sales have long been read as a proxy for domestic consumer health, but they now serve a second function: they track the pace at which Chinese manufacturers backfill the market share ceded by departed Western and Asian brands. A stabilization at zero after a prior decline is consistent with earlier recovery episodes in which the sector bottoms out before the broader consumer does, given auto demand's reliance on credit and household confidence. The split worth drawing is between growth driven by Chinese imports and growth in localized production, the former reflecting sanctions evasion and the latter the slower, harder process of retooled domestic capacity. The follow-on is whether this print signals stabilization across other Russian consumer metrics, or whether it is a statistical quirk of a thin market where one new fleet order or a single brand's logistics issue swings the aggregate.
