Russia's Yaroslavl oil refinery shut two of three crude distillation units after August 28th drone attacks, according to reports

Tour the PlatformStrikes on Russian refining capacity have followed a recognisable pattern in this campaign: the immediate loss falls on distillation throughput, and because damaged refineries cannot process crude, the barrel is redirected rather than destroyed, tending to push more Russian crude onto the export market while tightening product supply. The transmission channel is therefore primarily the product side, diesel and naphtha cracks and export loadings from Baltic and Black Sea ports, rather than the outright crude flat price, which in past episodes has responded only modestly unless export infrastructure itself is hit. The distinction worth drawing is between temporary outages, where units restart within weeks and the effect fades from spreads, and cumulative damage across multiple refineries, which has historically forced formal cuts to export quotas and visible draws in product inventories. What is worth watching is the run-rate data: Russian seaborne product loadings, refinery throughput estimates, and any official adjustment to export plans, which together reveal whether this is a single-site repair job or part of an attritional trend. Repair timelines have been a recurring point of uncertainty, with reports of units returning faster than initial damage assessments implied. As a single-refinery report the signal is directional on products rather than a crude supply event.
