An acceleration of this kind in the Spanish series has most often been driven by energy and fuel base effects, given the composition of the Spanish basket and the sensitivity of its regulated electricity components, so the decomposition between energy and the core measure matters more than the headline itself. Where past upside surprises of this sort have carried through, it has been when the national prints cluster in the same direction, forcing a repricing of the euro area aggregate rather than reflecting idiosyncratic Spanish factors. The transmission runs through the front end of the EONIA curve and the perceived proximity of the ECB's reaction function, with peripheral spreads typically responding only when the surprise is large enough to shift the policy path rather than the calendar. Worth watching is the core detail within the print, the remaining national flashes, and whether ECB officials treat the move as base-effect noise or as evidence of persistence in services.
