Context

A deceleration of this size in Spanish producer prices fits the pattern seen across euro area PPI prints since energy and commodity costs rolled over: the annual rate has been dominated by base effects in electricity and intermediate goods, so a sharp year-on-year drop tells more about the comparison base than about current pipeline pressure. National PPI releases carry limited weight on their own; the established sequence is that euro area aggregates and the national CPI and HICP prints do the actual repricing of ECB rate expectations, with PPI read mainly as a leading input into core goods inflation further down the chain. The distinction worth drawing is between energy-led disinflation, which passes through quickly and fades, and a cooling in non-energy industrial prices, which is what feeds the sticky core measures the ECB watches. Spanish data have at times led the bloc-wide trend, both on the way up in inflation and on the way down, so the print is a mild corroborating signal for the broader disinflation narrative rather than a market mover in its own right. The follow-ons are the euro area PPI aggregate and the next HICP flash, where the services and core components will determine whether this feeds into the policy path.
