Context

A sequential rise in the composite reading points to expansion broadening or deepening rather than stalling, and Spanish PMI has historically been one of the stronger performers within the euro area survey set, with services typically doing the heavy lifting relative to the manufacturing-heavy northern economies. Prints of this kind rarely move Spanish assets in isolation; the established transmission runs through the euro area aggregate, where an upside contribution from Spain feeds the bloc-wide composite and, at the margin, the rates path priced for the ECB, with OAT-Bono and Bund-Bono spreads tending to respond only when the surprise is large or persistent. The distinction worth drawing is between a momentum signal and a level signal: a second consecutive firm reading carries more weight for the growth narrative than a single print, and the services-versus-manufacturing split underneath the headline determines how much of it is domestically driven. Worth watching are the accompanying commentary on employment and prices charged, the latter being the channel through which firm southern PMI data has historically fed back into the ECB's services inflation concern. The euro area composite that follows is the natural confirmation point.
