Context
A swing of this size in the monthly Swedish CPI print is largely a seasonal story: the late-summer and early-autumn months have historically carried a strong positive base effect as holiday and clothing price discounts reverse, so the step from a negative to a positive month-on-month reading is the normal calendar pattern rather than new information in itself. What matters for the Riksbank reaction function is less the headline month-on-month than the underlying services and core measures and whether the year-on-year rate is converging on target, since the bank has historically looked through volatile monthly prints and set policy off the annual trend. The transmission channel runs through SEK front-end rates and the krona: a firm print against consensus tightens the expected path, while a seasonally driven uptick that leaves the annual rate steady tends to fade. Worth watching is the detail when the full release lands, particularly services inflation and the core measure the bank tracks, together with any revision to the prior month. The preliminary Swedish prints have occasionally been revised, so the first read is treated as directional rather than definitive.
