Context

The miss against consensus sits alongside a sharp year-on-year re-acceleration from the prior print, and the two pull in opposite directions: the base-effect-driven jump in the annual rate was largely anticipated, while the shortfall versus expectations is the component the rates market will actually trade. In Swedish episodes of this kind the transmission channel is the SEK front end and the implied Riksbank path rather than anything further out the curve, with the krona historically the more responsive leg when the surprise is modest and the policy cycle is mid-stream rather than at a turning point. The distinction that matters is between the headline CPI and the underlying ex-energy and fixed-income-relevant measures the Riksbank has long signalled it privileges, since headline misses driven by energy or administered components have repeatedly faded at the next meeting while core misses have moved the reaction function. The Riksbank's prior form in comparable soft prints has been to look through one release and weight the trend, so the follow-ons are the underlying breakdown, any subsequent board commentary reframing the print, and how the print sits relative to the bank's own most recent forecast rather than to street consensus. As a preliminary reading, the revision risk at the final print is a standing caveat.
