Context

Sweden's monthly GDP indicator is a volatile series, and swings of this size between consecutive prints are common; single-month readings in this range have historically said more about payback and timing effects than about the underlying trend, which is why the Riksbank and SEK have tended to lean on the quarterly national accounts and the three-month rate instead. The distinction worth drawing is between a bounce off a prior contraction that merely closes the gap and one that lifts activity above the prior trend, since only the latter feeds into the output-gap and capacity measures the central bank watches. Where monthly data of this kind have mattered for SEK is less the print itself than whether it shifts the relative-growth differential against the euro area, the channel through which the krona has typically traded. The follow-ons are the revisions, which on this series are routine and sometimes large, the quarterly release, and the next labour-market and inflation prints that frame the Riksbank's reaction. As a single high-frequency number, the signal is weak; the pattern across prints is what has historically carried weight.
