Context

Strikes attributed to government-aligned Yemeni forces rather than the US or UK coalition mark a different escalation track from the Red Sea campaign: this is the internal front reopening, with anti-Houthi ground factions hitting targets on or near Houthi-held territory. Historically, episodes where the intra-Yemeni war has heated up in parallel with the maritime campaign have mattered through two channels: the risk that Houthi retaliation broadens back toward shipping and energy infrastructure, and the fragility of the truce arrangements that had kept the civil war largely frozen. Taiz has been a contested axis throughout the conflict, and localised strikes there have on past occasions stayed contained, but the sequencing worth noting is whether Houthi statements frame this as grounds for wider response or as routine frontline exchange. The distinction that separates market-relevant from routine here is target geography: strikes confined to interior districts tend to fade, while anything touching coastal infrastructure, Saudi border areas, or shipping lanes has historically been what reprices freight, insurance and crude premia. Follow-ons are Houthi official rhetoric, any Saudi or coalition comment, and whether further sorties follow in the coming sessions.
