Context

Flow of this type is a put spread bought with delta hedged: paying up for the 105 put while selling the 104 against it finances the downside wing and caps protection at the lower strike, and the modest futures purchase neutralises the initial delta so the position is a long of downside convexity between the strikes rather than an outright directional short. The standard read on a put spread versus an outright put purchase is cost: the buyer wants protection over a defined band of weakness, not a crash, and is willing to give up the tail below the sold strike to cheapen it. Prints at this size in listed Treasury options are routine, and single blocks without colour on the counterparty or the rest of the book have historically been an unreliable signal on their own; the information content rises only when similar structures cluster across accounts or sessions, which is when desks start treating it as positioning rather than noise. What distinguishes a genuine hedge from speculative downside buying here is indeterminate from the tape, though the tight 1-point spread width and the futures overlay lean toward relative-value or book hedging rather than a macro view. Worth noting is where the strikes sit against the prevailing futures level and open interest at those lines, and whether follow-on flow repeats the structure at similar strikes and expiries. As with all block headlines, one print is a data point, not a theme.
