Sell-side forecast revisions of this kind are a regular feature around turning points in a policy cycle, and the informative element here is less the individual call than the direction of travel: a house moving from a terminal-rate view to pencilling in a follow-on hike is shifting from the end of the cycle to a cycle with persistence. The distinction that matters for positioning is between one final insurance move and the start of a sequence, since the former is largely priced at the next meeting while the latter re-steepens expectations further out the curve and leans against any existing cut pricing. ECB hiking episodes have historically been gradual and data-conditional, with the bank's own rhetoric on underlying inflation and wage dynamics doing more of the work than any single forecast. Worth watching is whether other houses follow, whether ECB officials' language shifts in the same direction, and how the call sits relative to where market-implied pricing already stands, since a revision in line with pricing carries less signal than one ahead of it. As a third-party projection rather than official communication, the direct read-through is modest and the value is in the consensus drift it signals.
