Context

Cover ratios in the mid-threes are healthy by the standards of UK linker supply, where demand is structurally supported by pension and insurance liability matching rather than by rate views, so the b/c is more a measure of concession and book-building than of sentiment. The step-up in real yield versus the previous comparable sale is the more informative print: successive linker auctions clearing at higher real yields point to the term premium and heavy gilt issuance calendar doing the work, a pattern seen through periods of elevated DMO remits where each auction requires a concession to clear. Worth distinguishing from nominal sales, where the same headline would speak to rate expectations; here the channel is real yields and breakevens, with the latter only moving if the linker underperforms or outperforms the nominal curve around the print. The follow-ons are the tail versus the pre-auction when-issued level, the next linker supply on the DMO calendar, and whether breakevens reprice as the real curve cheapens.
