UK Net Lending to Individuals (Aug MM) 6.874B vs. Exp. 6.2B (Prev. 6.300B)
Net lending to individuals is one of the softer tier of UK releases, but it feeds directly into the MPC's read on household credit conditions, and the composition matters more than the headline.

Beats driven by secured lending point to housing market momentum ahead of the mortgage approvals detail; beats driven by consumer credit historically drew more attention at the Bank, which in past cycles publicly flagged rapid unsecured growth as a financial stability concern and responded through the FPC's countercyclical toolkit rather than through Bank Rate. Gilt reaction to this series has typically been modest and short-lived unless the print compounds a run of hot consumption data, in which case it nudges the front end via repricing of the easing or tightening path. The established sequence is that a single firm credit print shifts little on its own, while persistence across several months has preceded more hawkish MPC language on household demand. Worth noting in context are the accompanying money supply aggregates and approvals figures, which together give a cleaner signal than the headline lending number, and the next set of MPC speakers for any acknowledgement of credit conditions.
