UK PPI Input YoY (Jun) Y/Y 7.3% (Prev. 8.7%)
A deceleration in input-price pressures of this size is the pattern that has historically mattered less for the print itself than for where it sits in the pipeline: input costs lead output prices, and output prices lead the services and goods components that UK rate-setters have treated as the stickier problem.

In past episodes of pipeline disinflation, the Bank of England has tended to acknowledge easing cost pressures at the front of the chain while holding policy against the lagging wage and services data, so the transmission here runs through the output PPI and then the CPI rather than directly to the rate path. No consensus is attached to the headline, so the surprise component is unquantifiable; the direction is a continuation of the prior cooling trend rather than a break in it. The distinction worth drawing is between commodity-driven input easing, which fades mechanically through base effects, and domestically generated cost relief, which is what actually shifts the MPC's centre of gravity. Follow-ons are the accompanying output-price readings, the next CPI print, and any MPC commentary referencing pipeline pressures ahead of the next decision.
