US Atlanta Fed GDPNow (Q3): 5.0% (prev. 5.1%)

GDPNow is a running nowcast, not a survey: it mechanically updates on the source data as it lands, so the marginal information is which input series moved the estimate, not the headline tick itself.

Context

A one-tenth downgrade at an elevated level of this kind is within the model's routine tracking error and has historically not repriced the front end on its own; the model's track record is strongest late in the quarter and weakest early, when a single trade or inventories print can swing it materially. The pattern in past episodes at these levels is that the nowcast converges toward the consensus advance estimate as the quarter matures, with the model tending to over- or under-shoot on the volatile net exports and inventory components. What carries weight for the rates market is the direction of travel and the composition: growth driven by consumption and final domestic demand feeds the inflation and labour debate differently than growth driven by stockbuilding. Worth watching is whether subsequent hard releases, retail, durables, construction, pull the estimate further or confirm it, and how the official advance print ultimately compares. As a model output rather than an official release, it sets tone rather than a trading level.
