US CENTCOM says no ships have hit mines in the Strait of Hormuz, and is another IRGC attempt to intimidate regional commercial shipping through disinformation

Tour the PlatformDenials of this kind are a recurring feature of Hormuz tension cycles: claims of mine strikes or harassment circulate, move crude and freight before verification, and are then walked back by the US military, with the retrace in oil typically as fast as the spike. The pattern through past episodes is that unconfirmed reports of interference with shipping price a geopolitical premium into the front of the crude curve and into war-risk insurance and tanker rates, and that premium bleeds out once no physical disruption to flows materialises. The distinction that matters is between disinformation, which fades, and an actual mining campaign, which historically has required minesweeping escort operations and has had a durable effect on insurance and routing even where the strait was never formally closed. CENTCOM framing this as IRGC messaging points to the former. What separates a fade from an escalation is confirmation of damage to a hull, a change in tanker transits or AIS behaviour, and any move by Gulf states or the US toward convoying. Absent those, episodes of this kind have tended to be noise rather than signal for supply.
