US EIA Crude Oil Imports Change (Aug/28) -0.079M (Prev. -0.161M)
This is one component line of the weekly EIA petroleum status report, and crude import swings of this magnitude are routine noise rather than signal: tanker scheduling, Gulf Coast fog delays and refinery run timing move the import number week to week without saying much about underlying demand.

The series matters mainly as an input to the implied stock build or draw, since imports and refinery runs are the two swinging parts of the crude balance, and a lower import week mechanically flatters inventories. Historically the print that moves WTI is the crude and product stock change against expectations, with the imports and runs lines read only to explain how the balance got there. The distinction worth drawing is between a one-off import dip and a sustained trend: the former reverses the following week, the latter can signal shifting refinery appetite or arbitrage economics on waterborne grades. Attention stays on the draws, distillate and gasoline stocks, and any follow-through in the refinery utilisation line.
