A swing from negative to positive in weekly distillate production points to refiners lifting yields on the middle of the barrel, a routine week-to-week adjustment that typically reflects run rates, crude slate and turnaround timing rather than any demand signal. This line has historically been the least market-moving component of the EIA suite: the numbers that reprice the complex are the crude and product stock draws or builds, with production changes treated as supply-side colour that only matters when sustained over several weeks. The distinction worth drawing is between production and implied demand; a rise in output alongside a stock build would read as soft offtake, while output up with stocks flat or drawing reads as genuine consumption.
