US EIA Gasoline Production Change (Aug/21) 0.061M (Prev. 0.143M)
Refinery gasoline output is a secondary line in the weekly EIA petroleum report and rarely moves product or crude on its own; the established hierarchy in these releases runs through the inventory balances, with implied gasoline demand and refinery utilisation the swing factors that have historically driven RBOB relative to crude. A slower week-on-week production change reads as softer runs or reduced blending activity, but output figures of this kind are noisy around maintenance windows and seasonal transitions, and single-week swings have tended to reverse. The distinction that matters is whether lower production accompanies falling stocks, which is constructive for the product crack, or rising stocks, which signals demand weakness despite tighter supply. The durable signal in these reports has come from the demand side rather than the supply line, so the production print typically fades against the draws and the utilisation rate released alongside it. As one component of a broader release, the read-through is conditional on the rest of the table.
