US EIA Gasoline Production Change (Sep/04) -0.537M (Prev. 0.073M)
The weekly EIA report is the US refining sector's standard pulse check, and the production line is routinely one of its noisier components, swinging week to week on refinery utilisation, maintenance turnarounds, and blending shifts rather than on any change in underlying demand.

A swing from modestly positive to negative production is well within the normal week-to-week range and on its own carries little signal; traders in past cycles have treated single-week moves in this series as secondary to the draws and builds in gasoline and crude inventories, which are what the prompt product cracks actually trade off. The relevant distinction is between a supply-side decline, where runs fall because refiners cut throughput, and a demand signal, which shows up instead in the implied product supplied figures. The production line alone does not separate the two. Follow-through has historically depended on whether the direction repeats across consecutive reports and whether it aligns with utilisation and import data in the same release. Worth noting is the seasonal context: production swings of this size are common around maintenance windows and grade transitions, and isolated prints are typically faded rather than trended.
