US JOLTs Job Quits (Aug) 3.066M (Prev. 3.056M)
The quits level is the least market-facing of the JOLTS components; the series that has historically carried signal is the quits rate as a gauge of worker confidence and wage pressure, since voluntary separations tend to lead labour-market churn and feed into the Fed's assessment of labour slack.

A marginal uptick in the headline count, of the size printed here, sits well within the series' normal month-to-month noise and has not, in past episodes, been sufficient on its own to reprice rate expectations. The more watched transmission is through the openings side, where the vacancies-to-unemployed ratio has been the committee's preferred tightness metric through recent cycles, and through the hiring and layoff rates for early signs of rollover. Releases of this vintage have also frequently been distorted by shutdown-related collection gaps and later revisions, which has tended to dampen the initial reaction relative to the payrolls and CPI prints that anchor the front end. The follow-ons are whether the openings and rate-level detail corroborate the direction, and how the print sits alongside the claims data and the next employment report rather than in isolation.
