Tour the PlatformThe Logistics Managers Index is a diffusion survey of transportation, warehousing and inventory conditions, and a reading still well above the 50 expansion line alongside a decline from the prior month points to a sector cooling from elevated levels rather than contracting. In past episodes, decelerations of this kind within expansionary territory have tended to reflect easing inventory accumulation and softer capacity utilisation after periods of congestion, rather than a turn in freight demand itself. The components historically matter more than the headline here: inventory levels versus warehouse prices and transport capacity have, in comparable downshifts, separated a benign normalisation from the early stages of an inventory destock, which feeds through to goods inflation and trucking volumes with a lag. As a second-tier survey it rarely moves rates or the dollar on its own; its established use is as corroboration for the ISM subindices and goods-side inflation trend, and the follow-ons worth noting are whether the decline persists across the component detail and whether it aligns with the broader run of soft data into the next policy meeting.
