US Private Inventory Data (bbls): Crude -2.6mln (exp. -0.8mln)
A larger-than-expected crude draw in the private survey is the standard weekly pattern-setter ahead of the official government figures, and the established sequence is that the private print moves the front of the WTI curve briefly before the official release either confirms or reverses it.

The private and official series have diverged often enough, through differences in coverage and adjustment methodology, that a beat of this kind is treated as directional rather than conclusive; the confirmation trade on the official data, including its product breakdown, is where the more durable move has tended to occur. The distinction worth drawing is between draws driven by refinery runs, which are demand-side and seasonally normal, and those driven by net imports or exports, which say more about arbitrage and global balances than domestic consumption. The gasoline and distillate lines in the same report matter as much as the crude line: a crude draw alongside a product build has historically blunted the bullish read, since it implies the barrels moved into storage downstream rather than being consumed. The immediate follow-ons are the official numbers and the Cushing figure within them, given the hub's role in the WTI contract's delivery mechanics.
