  • Landmark Agreement with GE Vernova (GEV) and Baker Hughes (BKR) supports the development of over 10 GW of new Island-Mode power capacity across sites owned or controlled by Venture Global

Context

Agreements of this kind fit a pattern that has been building across US LNG and other power-hungry industrial sites: operators securing their own island-mode generation rather than relying on grid interconnections whose queues and congestion have become a binding constraint on expansion timelines. The mechanism here is schedule certainty, since self-supplied power decouples project commissioning from utility buildout, and it converts an equipment order into a multi-year revenue stream for the turbine and services providers on the other side. For GE Vernova and Baker Hughes, the read-through runs through gas turbine and ancillary equipment backlogs, a segment where lead times have stretched and where large frame orders have historically been followed by long-tail service contracts that carry the margin. The distinction worth drawing is between a memorandum and a firm order: only the latter enters backlog, and the cadence of conversion from announcement to booked order has varied widely in past episodes of capacity scarcity. Worth watching are the follow-on disclosures on equipment scope, delivery schedules, and whether the capacity is tied to specific liquefaction phases or kept as a site-level option. As corporate news rather than a data point, the signal is confirmatory of an existing theme rather than a new one.
