A tied runoff poll at this stage of a Brazilian presidential cycle is the kind of print that has historically kept the BRL and local assets trading headline to headline rather than on fundamentals, since polls move the perceived fiscal trajectory more than any data release. The established pattern in past Brazilian runoff contests is that the currency trades as a referendum on fiscal credibility: markets have tended to favour the candidate read as more orthodox on spending, and tightening polls in the stretch run have coincided with wider implied vols and a weaker BRL on uncertainty alone, independent of which candidate ultimately led. The relevant transmission channels are the fiscal premium embedded in local rates and the curve, state-linked equity names sensitive to intervention risk, and the broader EM complex where Brazil is a large index weight. Worth noting that single polls, particularly via a wire report of one survey, carry house-effect and methodology noise; the tell that has mattered in previous cycles is convergence across pollsters and movement in betting-market and second-round voter-migration data rather than any one headline number. The follow-ons are the candidates' signalling on the spending cap and fiscal anchor, the choice of economic advisers, and the central bank's reaction function if the currency moves disorderly. As a poll rather than a result, the signal is about positioning and vol, not direction.
