Chevron (CVX) Q3 2026 (USD): adj. EPS 5.28 (exp. 4.86), Revenue 65bln (exp. 61.33bln)

Newsquawk Staff ·

  • Production lower Y/Y primarily due to lower entitlements from higher prices and impacts from the Middle East conflict, partly offset by record production at operated assets in Australia, higher production in the Gulf of America and the inclusion of one month of Venezuela production following a change to equity accounting in the quarter.
  • Capex lower Y/Y, largely due to lower spend in the Permian Basin.
  • Dividend of 1.78/shr.

What it means

Integrated majors have historically traded on the upstream versus downstream split rather than the headline EPS print, so the composition of the beat matters more than its size. The production shortfall attributed to lower price-linked entitlements and regional conflict is a familiar pattern in this sector: entitlement effects compress reported volumes precisely when realised prices are strongest, and markets have generally treated such volume misses as non-cash-flow-bearing. The partly offsetting items, record output at operated Australian assets, Gulf of America growth, and the Venezuela equity-accounting inclusion, point to the operational trend being stronger than the headline Y/Y volume line suggests, and the accounting change means the quarter is not directly comparable to prior periods. Lower Permian capex continues the capital-discipline posture that the large integrateds have maintained since the shift away from volume growth, a stance that has historically supported buyback and dividend capacity rather than been read as underinvestment. Worth watching on the call are downstream and refining margins, the split of the beat between segments, and any guidance on buyback pacing, since the majors have tended to re-rate on shareholder-return guidance more than on any single quarter's volumes.
