Context

A beat and a re-acceleration of this size in Chinese factory-gate prices sits within a recurring pattern: stretches of PPI strength have historically tracked the commodity and property-linked industrial cycle, with input-cost pass-through moving the print faster than domestic demand alone. The distinction worth drawing is whether producer inflation of this kind reflects upstream pricing power in coal, metals and energy, which squeezes downstream margins, or broad reflation, which transmits abroad. Chinese PPI is the channel through which the country's cycle has historically fed global goods inflation, given its weight in tradable manufacturing, so sustained accelerations have tended to precede firmer imported-price components elsewhere. The domestic policy read cuts the other way: episodes of elevated factory-gate inflation have at times been tolerated while consumer inflation stayed subdued, leaving the CPI-PPI gap as the tell for margin compression rather than a trigger for tightening. The follow-ons are the CPI print, the industrial metals and bulk commodity complex, and whether upstream price administrative measures appear, as they have in prior bouts. As a single data point, the signal is that the reflation trend is steepening rather than cresting.
