Context

A step-up of this size in yuan terms is unusually large for a single month and, in past episodes, sharp accelerations in Chinese export growth have tended to reflect calendar distortions, front-loading ahead of tariff or trade-policy deadlines, or a base effect rather than a genuine inflection in external demand. The yuan-denominated series is the less-watched of the two releases; the dollar-denominated print, which follows in the same data round, is the one offshore desks have historically treated as the benchmark, and divergence between the two is typically a currency-translation story rather than a volumes one. The composition matters more than the headline: strength concentrated in a few categories or destinations has tended to fade quickly, while broad-based gains across manufactured goods have carried more signal for the regional supply chain and for commodity-import demand. The immediate follow-ons are the dollar-denominated figures, the import side of the same release, which speaks to domestic demand, and the breakdown by destination and product. Seasonally, single-month Chinese trade prints have a long record of being revised in interpretation once the following month strips out the distortion.
