Iran's position in talks with the US to end the war hasn't changed much from earlier iterations that failed to yield progress towards a deal, WSJ reports, citing mediators and US officials

- Comments came after Trump said he called off military strikes planned for Tuesday.
- Mediators said Iran continues to insist on an end to hostilities, financial relief, reparations for war damage, and a role in overseeing the Strait of Hormuz while remaining at odds with US demands regarding the closing or long-term suspension of its nuclear programme.
- US and Israel had been preparing to carry out new attacks on Iran within days, according to people familiar with the matter.
- Some said strikes could still happen as early as next week.
