PBoC injects CNY 463.3bln via 7-day reverse repos at 1.40%
Daily 7-day reverse repo operations are the PBoC's routine liquidity management tool, and a gross injection of this size on its own carries little signal; what matters is the net figure after maturing operations, which determines whether liquidity is being added or drained on the day.

The unchanged 1.40% rate is the more telling element: in recent practice the 7-day reverse repo rate has functioned as the PBoC's primary policy rate, displacing the MLF as the benchmark, so any signal on policy intent comes from a move in that rate rather than from the operation size. Large gross injections have typically clustered around month-end, quarter-end, tax payment dates, and holiday funding demand, conditions under which the operation is smoothing rather than easing. The distinction worth drawing is between liquidity provision, which affects interbank conditions and the front of the CNY curve, and policy easing, which requires a rate change. The follow-ons that have mattered in past sequences are the net weekly liquidity position, the MLF and LPR fixings later in the month, and whether interbank rates are trading persistently above the policy rate.
