What it means

The RigCo structure is the residue of Keppel's exit from the offshore rigbuilding business, when its marine arm was folded into what is now Seatrium and the unfinished rigs and receivables were parked in a separate vehicle to be worked down over time. Arrangements where the legacy asset holder pays the successor yard to complete stranded rigs are a standard feature of that kind of separation, and prior announcements from this pair have been read as incremental monetisation of the parked inventory rather than new order intake. The contract value sits on Seatrium's orderbook, while for Keppel the read-through is recovery on assets held outside the core asset-management business. What separates this from a conventional newbuild award is that the rigs were already largely built; the economics turn on completion cost versus recoverable value, not on fresh demand for offshore construction. The follow-ons are disclosure on rig delivery schedules and any sale or charter of the completed units, which is where the cash recovery actually lands. The Taiwan closure and the Singapore PM's energy-security remarks are routine session colour.
