Guidance

  • Q2 adj. EPS 1.33-1.55 (exp. 1.36).
  • Q2 revenue 4.7bln (exp. 4.49bln).

What it means

A modest beat on both lines with guidance set above the prior consensus range: in semicap equipment, the forward guide has historically mattered more than the quarter itself, since the group trades on the wafer fab equipment spend trajectory rather than on trailing results. KLA sits in process control, inspection and metrology, where share is structurally concentrated and margins tend to hold up better than in deposition or etch peers, so its prints have often been taken as the cleaner read on foundry and memory capex intentions; comparable results from the etch and deposition names and the lithography leader are the natural follow-ons, and the peer set has tended to trade sympathetically on KLA prints. The established sequence is the conference call detail on foundry/logic versus memory mix, advanced packaging contribution, and services growth, which is where the guide gets decomposed into what is durable and what is pull-forward. China-related commentary has been the recurring swing factor in this cycle, since export-control tightening has repeatedly reset revenue assumptions for the whole group between prints, and the split between restricted and unrestricted exposure is what differentiates names on these days. Order and backlog colour, if given, has historically been the tell on whether an above-consensus guide reflects genuine demand acceleration or shipment timing. A beat-and-raise from a process control name has tended to hold its gains better than a beat on cost control alone.
