Context

Weekly calendars of this shape cluster the week's risk around two or three events, and here the obvious focal points are the FOMC minutes midweek and the flash PMIs on Friday. Minutes from a prior meeting have historically repriced front-end rate expectations only when they reveal committee division or a bias that post-meeting communications had masked; when they merely confirm the statement, the reaction fades quickly and attention reverts to fresh data. The flash PMI round is the usual sequence-setter for month-end positioning, with the composite employment and prices-paid components tending to matter more than the headline. UK prints stack up unusually densely this week, with jobs, inflation and retail sales in succession, a run that has in past episodes compounded sterling rate-path repricing when the sequence leans one way. ECB speaker frequency, Lane twice and Lagarde once, is worth tracking for whether the tone shifts between appearances. The Riksbank decision is the only live policy event and, as a small open economy benchmark, tends to move local rates and the krona rather than broader markets, while the Chinese LPR and activity data frame the Asia session early in the week.
