US Secretary of State Rubio says the US will investigate a deadly speedboat shooting off Cuba after the Cuban Interior Ministry reported its forces killed four people who allegedly opened fire from a Florida-tagged vessel.
What it means
The geopolitical tensions surrounding Cuba are likely to heighten with the U.S. Secretary of State's announcement of an investigation into the deadly shooting incident. This could lead to increased scrutiny of U.S.-Cuba relations and might impact investor sentiment, especially in related sectors such as tourism and energy, given the historical context of tension. The situation could also influence demand for safe-haven assets if tensions escalate further.
