APAC Stocks: Mixed

  • Asia-Pac stocks trade mixed following the risk-averse mood in the US as geopolitics continues to dominate headlines, while participants are also cautious heading into key US jobs data.

ASX 200: -1.3%

  • Index is dragged lower as heavy losses in miners, materials and resources sectors offset the gains in tech and telecoms, while recent higher energy prices stoke inflationary concerns and narrow the policy space for the RBA.

Nikkei 225: +0.4%

  • Traded indecisively and swung between gains and losses with very little fresh macro catalysts for Japan.

Hang Seng & Shanghai Comp: Hang Seng +1.4% / Shanghai Comp +0.2%

  • Chinese markets trade higher, albeit to varying degrees, with the mainland rangebound and with outperformance in Hong Kong amid tech strength and as participants reflect on recent earnings from the likes of JD.com, JD Logistics and Bilibili.

US Equity Futures: Rangebound

  • US index futures are off the prior day's trough but with price action contained as the NFP report looms.

European Equity Futures +0.9%

  • Indicate a higher open with Euro Stoxx 50 futures up 0.9% after the cash market closed with losses of 1.5% on Thursday.
Context

jobs data. The divergence in trends among indices, particularly the heavy losses in ASX 200 due to resource sector declines versus gains in Hong Kong markets, reflects the prevailing risk-averse sentiment. This environment not only impacts regional equities but also weighs on policy outlooks, particularly for central banks like the RBA.
