Context

Endorsements from eliminated third-place candidates are a standard feature of two-round systems, but their value has historically been uneven: the transferability of a losing candidate's vote bloc matters more than the endorsement itself, and past runoffs have shown that a meaningful share of such voters drift to the other side or abstain rather than follow the cue. The analytically useful distinction is between candidates whose support was ideological and likely to consolidate behind the challenger, and those whose support was protest or personality-driven and fragments in the runoff. For Brazilian assets the established transmission runs through fiscal expectations: markets in past cycles have rewarded contenders perceived as more orthodox on spending, with the BRL, the front of the DI curve and the local equity benchmark trading the runoff as a referendum on the fiscal framework. The tells worth watching are whether the endorsement is active campaigning or nominal, whether other eliminated candidates and party machines fall in behind it, and the first post-endorsement runoff polling to gauge actual vote transfer. Directionally this consolidates the anti-incumbent field, but the precedent is that consolidation headlines move Brazilian assets less than the subsequent polling evidence that votes actually followed.
